Deyang, which was approved by the State Council to be founded
in 1983 as a prefecture-level city under the provincial government,
is located 58 km to the provincial capital of Chengdu. Presently
it administers Guanghan City, Shifang City, Mianzhu City, Zhongjiang
County, Luojiang County and Jingyang District, covering an area
of 5,954 sq.km., and inhabited with a population of over 3.8

million.
Deyang ranks the third in terms of gross domestic product (GDP)
in Sichuan Province. Shifang City, Mianzhu City, Guanghan City,
and Jingyang District have been ranking amongst the top ten
in the province in terms of overall economic strength for several
consecutive years, whilst Zhongjiang County is one of the best
hundred agricultural counties in the country.
Deyang is an important
industrial city in the Chengdu Plain of Sichuan, a national
experimental city for comprehensive system reform, an important
part of the new and hi-tech industrial belt along the line
of Chengdu-Deyang-Mianyang, and an important national manufacturing
base for major technical equipments. It is one of the areas
that is the most worthy of investment in West China.
